Board Name: Ann Klein Forensic Center - Board of Trustees
Legal Authority: N.J.S.A. 30:4-1 and amended by P.L. 1998, c. 152 of 01/12/99
Purpose: The Legislature established for each institution or agency within the Department of Human Services a Board of Trustees. The State Board of Human Services, with the approval of the Governor, shall appoint the members of the Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for advancing long range planning for medical care, correctional and training programs at the facility and maintaining general oversight of the facility. In addition, the Board has the authority to review institutional needs, exercise visitation privileges and develop a comprehensive master plan, including priorities for construction and development of new programs with the Commissioner of Human Services and his/her staff. The Board may also recommend and advise the Commissioner on building programs, control and determine the use of patient welfare funds, and review and comment on budget requests. Furthermore, the Board is empowered to review periodically existing programs of care, training, rehabilitation and other such matters. Finally, the Board shall authorize studies and require reports from the chief executive officer, and present to the Commissioner recommendations as it deems necessary.
Special Requirements: Members shall be appointed by the State Board of Human Services subject to the Governor's approval. The members shall be residents of the State of New Jersey and shall be considered for appointment without respect to political affiliations or beliefs. The statute requires that there shall be at least 2 women on the Board. Ann Klein Forensic Center (formerly Forensic Psychiatric Hospital) (Mercer County) serves the entire State of New Jersey.
