Human Services Honors Winning Entries in 15th Annual Art Contest

Celebrating Responsibilities of Parenthood

 
TRENTON Six New Jersey high school and middle school students were honored at the Statehouse on May 21, 2010 for their winning entries in the Department of Human Services’ Teen Media Contest. The contest, in its 15th year, helps promote parental responsibility in New Jersey's youth.Students created original, hand-drawn artwork to complement the Department’s ongoing advertising and outreach campaign: “Child Support. It’s more than just money.”  The winning artwork best illustrated this year’s theme:  Depict something your parent(s) does for or with you that defines what “home” means to you.


In the high school category:

  • First place, Adelaide Agyemang, Sayreville War Memorial High School, Parlin
  • Second place, Josh Aylett, Wall High School, Wall
  • Third place, Cynthia Zhang, John P. Stevens High School, Edison

In the middle school category:

  • First place, Lauren Anne Mueller, Forrestdale School, Rumson
  • Second place, Nicholas Ugliarolo, John H. Walker Middle School, Nutley
  • Third place, Chasen Zhisheng Shao, Carusi Middle School, Cherry Hill

Winners received U.S. Savings Bonds, plaques of achievement and two day passes to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.  All winning entries will be displayed in the Statehouse from May 24 to May 28.  The artwork will also be featured in the Child Support 2011 Calendar, which is sent to schools throughout the state.
