TO ALL UNLICENSED ALARM AND LOCKSMITH BUSINESSES
FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION!

Your business must be licensed, as required by statute, to provide alarm, locksmith, and electronic security services in the State of New Jersey.

The Advisory Committee has been licensing alarm and locksmith businesses since January, 2008. Business License applications are posted on the Advisory Committee Applications Website.

Licenses are being issued in the following categories depending upon the services the business provides:

Burglar Alarm Business (BX)
Fire Alarm Business (FX)
Locksmith Business (LX)
Burglar Alarm and Fire Alarm Business (BF)
Burglar Alarm and Locksmith Business (BL)
Fire Alarm and Locksmith Business (FL)
Burglar Alarm, Fire Alarm and Locksmith Business (AL)

The application fee for a Business License is $150.00.
The Business License will be valid through January 31, 2011.

Once a business has been licensed, it will be required to provide the names of its employees and the duties the employees perform. A licensed business also will be asked to designate its employees as supervising/supervised or unsupervised. Applications with regard to employees will be sent to licensed businesses during the second phase of the business licensing process.

For Locksmith businesses, refer to N.J.A.C. 13:31A-2.5 through N.J.A.C. 13:31A-2.8. For Alarm businesses, refer to N.J.A.C. 13:31A-3.4 through N.J.A.C. 13:31A-3.7.

Pleased be advised that the continued operation of your business, without the appropriate business license, will result in the issuance of a cease and desist demand, as well as monetary penalties, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 45:1-23.
