NEWARK—The Division of Consumer Affairs has mailed letters to the operators of ten gas stations informing them that minor violations identified at their facilities earlier this year in fact did not exist.

The ten stations were found to either have inaccurate credit card receipts or did not have the brand of fuel posted. A subsequent review following the inspections conducted by either local or state Weights and Measures inspectors found that these 10 stations in fact did not have the noted violations. Five of the 10 stations were cited for other violations that were confirmed to be valid.

"We're setting the record straight," said David Szuchman, Consumer Affairs Director. "We did verify that many serious violations, such as inaccurate pumps and pricing errors, did exist at service stations elsewhere. But in reviewing these 10 cases, we found that the violations for inaccurate credit card receipts or no brand of gasoline posted were incorrect."

The stations noted with a * were cited for other violations that are still valid.

Alleged violations identified at two other service stations, Academy Exxon in Livingston and Riggins in Millville, were previously announced as being inaccurate.

More than 1,000 gas stations statewide were inspected at the end of May through a coordinated effort involving county and state Weights and Measures personnel. A total of 338 stations (corrected total) were found to have had violations.
