| Deadlines Announced for Voter Registration, Absentee Ballot Applications | ||||||||
| TRENTON
- The deadline for New Jersey residents to register to vote in the November
5th General Election is Monday, October 7th, Attorney General David Samson
and Division of Elections Director Ramon de la Cruz announced today.
In order to register, those who wish to vote must be United States citizens, must be at least 18 years of age by election day and must have resided in their respective counties in New Jersey for at least 30 days prior to the general election. Those seeking to register must not be on parole, probation or serving a sentence for conviction of an indictable offense under any federal or state laws. Residents may register to vote either by mail or in person. If a resident chooses to register by mail, his or her mailing envelope must be postmarked by October 7th. Forms can be obtained from a municipal clerk, county Commissioner of Registration or the state Division of Elections. New Jersey citizens may also register in person with their municipal or county Commissioner of Registration. For evening registration hours, please contact your municipal clerk or county Commissioner of Registration. Residents may also obtain a voter registration form from any state Division of Motor Vehicle agency. Citizens who need to submit an application for an absentee ballot because of special, extenuating circumstances must do so by 3 p.m. Monday, November 4th. The deadline for mail-in applications is Tuesday, October 29th. A list of candidates is available on the state Division of Elections web site at: www.NJElections.org. |
