How can I join?
We are always looking for quality musicians with or without prior military service.
To join the 63rd Army Band, you should possess strong sight-reading skills and be able to perform various musical styles.
You'll be expected to pass an audition, which consists of preparation of excerpts of varying styles of music and quickly prepared music.
Quickly prepared music is testing your sight-reading ability. You will be given the music for this portion of your audition 24 hours in advance.
You will be scored on elements such as technique, tone, rhythm, and musicality.
In addition to the audition, you will also need to pass the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test) and a physical examination.
You will need to pass the Army's physical examination and meet other standards required to enlist in the Armed Forces.
Once you enlist, you will go to basic training for 10 weeks and then to the Army School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA for 10 weeks.
After returning from your initial training, you will fulfill your military obligation by rehearsing, training, and performing with us one weekend each month
and for 2 weeks in the summer.
An audition doesn't have to be your first exposure to the band: if you're interested in getting to know us better, please come and talk to us at one of our public performances, or call us at 732-974-5963 to arrange a visit.
If you, or someone you know, may be interested in joining the 63rd Army Band, please give us a call!
