NJ Korean War Memorial Committee
The Korean Veterans Memorial Committee was established by Governor Christine Todd Whitman and the Legislature on July 22, 1996, to create a "fitting acknowledgment of the valor displayed by our military personnel who served in Korea." The committee is responsible for selecting a site; developing and administering a competition for the design of the memorial; and raising the funds to build it.
The committee consists of 15 members: two each from the Senate and Assembly; eight members from recognized veterans groups; one public member; and two ex officio members, the Secretary of State and the Adjutant General of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
The committee was formed because it was felt that New Jersey veterans of the Korean War "had not received the recognition they deserved and that it was proper that the citizens of the state pay tribute to the sacrifices that were made by the men and women of this state who served in Korea and to commemorate the courage they displayed."
