Cpl. R. P. Toole Killed Korea
Parents of Bloomfielder, 184 Told of His Death, With Trapped Unit
Mr. and Mrs. Phillip R. Toole of 115 Orange Street Bloomfield, were notified yesterday by the Defense Department that their son, Cpl. Robert P. Toole, was killed in action in North Korea an November 27. He was fighting with the Second Regiment of First Marine Division, trapped during the drive on the Changjin Reservoir. He was 18.

Cpl. Toole enlisted two years ago in the 21st Infantry Marine Reserve Battalion and went into active service with the unit at Dover in August. He left Dover with the battalion September 7 for Camp Pendleton, Cal., and went to Korea October 15 with the Seventh Regiment. His parents last heard from him December 4 by letter written November 24.

Active in Sports
Born in Bloomfield, Cpl. Toole graduated from the high school there in. June, 1949, and had completed his freshman year at.Seton Hall University, where he was majoring in physical education. Interested in athletics, he played various sports with independent town clubs and was manager of the Seton Hall Freshman baseball team. He was a member of the CYO of Sacred Heart Church, Bloomfield.

His father is employed in the renewal parts department at the General Electric Air Conditioning Plant in Bloomfield. Besides his parents, he leaves three brothers, Joseph L. 19, enrolled as a freshman man in the February term at Notre Dame University, and John and Richard; Toole, 14-year old twins, and his grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Kenah of Orange.
