Medal Of Honor Awardee Being Added To Korean War Memorial On Boardwalk
WHO/WHAT: A bronze casting with the fifth New Jersey Medal of Honor recipient will be unveiled at the state’s Korean War Memorial on the Atlantic City boardwalk.
Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff, The Adjutant General of New Jersey and Ray Zawacki, Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs at New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will join family and veterans for the event.
Congressman William James “Bill” Pascrell, Jr. will read the citation for Medal of Honor recipient Pfc. Henry Svehla and the soldier’s nephew Anthony Svehla will speak at the event.
WHEN: Friday, July 12 at 11 a.m.
WHERE: New Jersey Korean War Memorial, Brighton Park at Boardwalk, Atlantic City
Details: Pfc. Henry Svehla distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a Rifleman with F Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in connection with combat operations against an armed enemy in Pyongony, Korea, on June 12, 1952. Svehla’s hometown is Belleville (Essex County).
