MVC Returns to Paterson with New Model Agency
Motor vehicle services back in Passaic County city for first time since 1995 
 
(PATERSON) – Continuing its dedication to providing a high level of service to New Jersey motorists, Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Chief Administrator Sharon A. Harrington today celebrated the grand opening of the organization’s latest Model Agency in Paterson, Passaic County, with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Joined by state and local officials, Harrington highlighted features of the improved facility and expressed the MVC’s strong commitment to offering clean, comfortable and modern facilities for its customers.

The opening of this new Model Agency marks the return of motor vehicle services to Paterson for the first time in over 12 years. In July of 1995, the Paterson Agency, then operated by the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), was one of several motor vehicle agencies closed during an agency privatization plan.

“The return to the wonderful city of Paterson has been a long time coming, and the MVC is certainly thrilled to be back,” Harrington said. “As the residents of Paterson and the surrounding communities will see first-hand, the MVC is making every effort possible to modernize our facilities statewide to better serve MVC customers. Opening this spacious facility in Paterson is another step in accomplishing this task. Through careful planning, the MVC has wisely invested in customer service, technology and security for its facilities. This investment allows us to continue down the path of becoming the model for excellence in motor vehicle services.”

The Paterson Agency is the MVC’s 14th facility out of 45 to meet Model Agency standards. The Model Agency concept was established following a 2004 comprehensive MVC Siting Study, performed by Standard and Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting. The study analyzed all aspects of MVC facilities, including locations, service times, transit access, population growth trends and transaction volume projections over a five-year period.

The Model Agency is what the MVC considers a proper agency setup that provides the necessary means to effectively serve customers, including a minimum of 6,000 square feet of space, with ample counter workstations and improved public areas that allow a customer to be better served without standing in line for extended periods of time.

Located at 125 Broadway in Suite 201 of the Paterson Parking Garage, the Paterson Agency provides 6,000 square feet of business space and includes 15 customer service counters, three digital driver license camera stations, and 15 driver testing stations. Customers will also find expanded waiting areas and restrooms, along with plenty of parking.

Paterson customers will be assisted by 24 staff members in a pleasant, bright, clean environment. Hours of operation at the Paterson Agency are weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with late hours on Thursday evenings until 7:30 p.m., and Saturday hours from 8 a.m. to noon.
                                                                                                                                            
      Harrington encouraged MVC customers to avoid the end- and beginning-of-the-month rush at MVC agencies by planning to visit mid-week and mid-month. Additionally, a number of transactions may also be completed online at www.njmvc.gov.
