MVC Focuses Latest Customer Service Enhancement on Randolph
New Morris County agency will be built on state-owned land

(RANDOLPH TWP.) – Following Governor Jon S. Corzine’s call to make New Jersey government more accessible, responsive and cost efficient, Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Acting Chief Administrator Shawn B. Sheekey today highlighted another critical investment for the future at a ground breaking in Randolph Township, Morris County – the future site of the new Randolph Agency. The infrastructure project is a part of the organization’s strategic plan to continue improving and enhancing its facilities and services for customers statewide.

Joined by state and local officials, Sheekey emphasized the importance of continually working to improve customer service and bringing even greater efficiency to the delivery of motor vehicle services. While stressing a strategic approach to facility management, Sheekey noted the MVC’s efforts to create adaptable sites that offer the greatest number of customer service enhancements. The new Randolph location will bring one-stop-shopping for all motor vehicle needs such as driver licensing and vehicle titling, registration and inspection; 4,800 additional square feet of customer and employee space; and more than double the amount of customer service counters. He also noted the state will save over $96,000 annually with the opening of the site.

“Wise investments in projects such as this new Randolph facility further demonstrate our commitment to MVC customers,” said Sheekey. “The prototype facility is a forward-thinking concept that keeps the future of motor vehicle services in mind. It provides us with everything we need to continue the positive progress experienced over the last six years as well as helping us to reduce the cost of government.”

The new, much larger prototype Randolph Agency, which will be built adjacent to the inspection station at 160 Canfield Avenue, will replace the existing Randolph Agency located on 1572 Sussex Turnpike. STV Incorporated of Newark serves as the project architect while Gingerelli Brothers Construction Company of Toms River will oversee construction of the facility, which is expected to take approximately one year to complete. Both worked together previously on the construction of the MVC’s first prototype Model Agency in Freehold, Monmouth County. Approximately 100 workers are expected to be employed throughout the yearlong project, stimulating the local economy and bringing this long-awaited project to fruition.

Funding for the Randolph Agency and other MVC renovation and construction projects was established through a bond included in the Motor Vehicle Security & Customer Service Act of 2003. These monies continue to be used to enhance existing facilities and build new Model Agencies to better serve New Jersey residents.

“While staying true to the goal of improving service, security and safety throughout our organization, the MVC has focused on advancing only those projects and initiatives that aid in the delivery of core motor vehicle services,” added Sheekey. “The agency is the most basic and most recognizable outlet that we have for service. Maintaining and improving our agencies is recognized as absolutely essential to our overall transformation.”

The Model Agency concept was established following a 2004 comprehensive MVC Siting Study performed by Standard and Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting. The study analyzed all aspects of MVC facilities, including locations, service times, access to mass transit, population growth trends and transaction volume projections over a five-year period. In the development of a strategic plan for facilities and services, the MVC developed the Model Agency, which is the ideal physical operational layout for both employees and customers.

The new Randolph site will expand on the Model Agency concept with a prototype design that offers an opportunity for even greater efficiency, the ability to expand services and ensure flexibility for the future. The design has already shown great success in the recently opened Freehold and Flemington Agencies. The modernized agency design provides environmentally friendly aspects such as sensor controlled light and water fixtures, floors made from recycled materials and more natural light features to reduce energy costs. Other new agency project locations include South Brunswick, Rahway and Lodi, all of which are also slated for 2010 openings.
