School Bus Inspection Results

Vehicles registered for school transportation are inspected twice a year.

Understanding the School Bus Inspection Report Card

The School Bus Inspection Reporting System provides the latest inspection results for vehicles registered for school transportation based on your search criteria. If searched results are found, a list of School Bus Companies is displayed with company information and a School Bus Company Statistical Summary.

The School Bus Company Statistical Summary shows the percentage of buses that failed their initial (first) inspection and were put out of service. The percentage is based on the number of buses that were initially failed and how many buses were inspected for the company. This number does not include all buses that the company may own - only the current number of buses inspected. Bus companies are on a six (6) month inspection cycle, and every bus has an inspection every six (6) months. Depending on when you search for a company’s records, the summmary will determine their failure rate. The summary also shows the percentage of buses that passed their initial (first) inspection. The percentage is based on the number of buses that were initially passed and how many buses were inspected for the company. This number does not include all buses that the company may own, only the current number of buses inspected.

Bus companies are on a six (6) month inspection cycle and every bus has an inspection every six (6) months. Depending upon when you search for a company’s records will determine their passing rate.

Under the company information and the statistical summary you will find the number of School Bus Inspections that were performed for the company.

Below that is the detail information on each bus inspected.

The inspections are broken down into three (3) sections:

  • Out of Service Rejections
    • Bus failed and was taken off the road until repairs were made
  • 30 Day Defect(s)
    • Bus failed and was allowed to be used but was given 30 days to make repairs
  • Initial Approvals
    • Bus passed
In the report you will find the following information on the bus:
  • License Plate Number
  • Bus Number
  • Inspection Date
  • Initial Approval
  • Re-exam Approval
  • Approval Number (Sticker Number)

At the beginning of the record you will see that you can click on the word View in the Details column to access even more detail about the inspection of a bus. Once you click on the word View you will see detailed information about a particular bus. Here you will see the Category of the failure and the Inspection Result. If you click on the underlined words in the Inspection Result column, you will get a pop-up window with a detailed explanation for a particular rejection item.  The rejection information comes from a reference table of the Administrative Code.

You may print the detail page by using the print button located at the bottom of the page or the internet browser “Print” function.

* Occasionally, school buses receive inspections at locations other then their terminal. This will result in some towns being displayed in a different county from the one they are in. Therefore, if a bus company does not appear in the county you would expect, please try searching adjacent counties.
