Safety in the Workplace
Using the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development free On-Site Consultation Service, employers can find out about potential hazards at their worksites, improve their occupational safety and health management systems.
  • Occupational Safety & Health On-Site Consultation Program
    • Provides free On-Site Safety and Health Consultation services to private sector employers.
    • Identifies safety and health violations of the OSHA Standards and works with employers to improve their internal occupational safety and health management systems.

  • Occupational Safety and Health Training Unit
    • Provides free safety and health training programs to both private and public sector employers.
    • Training programs may be customized to the needs and work environment of each employer.
    • Prepares alerts for the public and private sectors covering matters of employee safety and health.
    • Oversees the Mine Safety Education Program for the state mining industry.

  • Asbestos Control & Licensing
    • Requires asbestos abatement companies to obtain New Jersey state-issued licenses.
    • Requires individuals performing asbestos work to obtain state-issued performance identification permits for asbestos workers or supervisors.

  • Office of Public Employees' Occupational Safety & Health (OPEOSH)
    • Performs safety inspections of public employer work sites in order to protect the safety and health of public employees.
    • OPEOSH has the authority to order the correction of any safety or health hazards identified during an inspection.
