For some 35 years, the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School has been the only school in the state to offer medical degrees. That is, until now. The new Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden will open to its first 50 students on August 13. During the formal celebration to open the school on July 25, Governor Chris Christie said, “Children throughout New Jersey who dream of one day becoming a doctor now have another medical school option, right in their own state.” The incoming class of 2016 was selected from nearly 2,900 applicants. Its members range in age from 22 to 36 and 58% are female. Three-quarters of the first students are New Jersey residents. To read more, go to http://www.cooperhealth.edu/medical-school.
