"You should bring self-awareness to whatever you do. Choose a career or job within your career to really understand your strengths and weaknesses. Understand where you get the most satisfaction and joys and try to bring that to the job. The second quality is, at the same time, to be able to look beyond yourself and to recognize the needs of the whole organization and smaller work teams. Be team-oriented in your behavior, truly valuing the contributions of others. Be able to step back and listen to other perspectives and take them in. Thirdly, I think all of us benefit from having an inquiring attitude. We have jobs to do, but beyond that it's important to step back and understand the context in which we're operating, looking for ways to approach assignments more creatively in order to improve upon things. A fourth quality is that I think all of us, no matter what role we're in, have opportunities to take the leadership reins. We really ought to feel the responsibility and excitement of being able to step forward and be a role model, or to take a team or an individual in a new direction because of our leadership. Lastly, it's important that we have pride in ourselves. We should feel great about who we are, how we've spent the day and the values by which we've operated."
