Federal Reimbursement Approved for December 2010 Snow Storm

Disaster Recovery Fact Sheet [pdf]

Governor Chris Christie is pleased to announce that President Obama has approved the State of New Jersey’s request for federal disaster reimbursement (FEMA-1954-DR) to cover damages and costs related to the severe snow storms which impacted 13 New Jersey counties on December 26 -27, 2010.

The reimbursement award has been directed to the counties of Bergen, Burlington, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, and Union Counties for Categories A thru G
( http://www.fema.gov/government/grant/pa/re_categories.shtm) regarding the debris removal related to the snow storm.. The potential for additional counties to be included in DR 1954 will be reviewed on a case by case basis as per FEMA guidelines/criteria.

"This much needed reimbursement will allow the affected counties to fully recover from one of the most devastating snow storms that our state has experienced in recent years," said Christie.

In the aftermath of the December storm, Governor Christie sent a formal request to the White Housefor federal disaster assistance after a comprehensive storm damage assessment led by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) in conjunction with federal, county and local officials was completed.

"The federal reimbursement approval will supplement the hard work, determination and commitment by each state agency that responded during the storm. I also have to commend New Jersey's residents for their resilience and perseverance in dealing with the challenges presented by the storm," Christie added.

NJOEM and FEMA will host applicant briefings in the coming weeks. Additionally, NJOEM will continue to work in partnership with FEMA officials throughout the reimbursement process.
