BOARD OF PHARMACY
Notice of Pre-Proposal
Collaborative Practice
Authorized By: Board of Pharmacy, Joanne Boyer, Executive Director.
Authority: N.J.S.A. 45:14-41, 45:14-48a.(4), 45:14-61 and 45:14-62.
Take notice that the Board of Pharmacy jointly proposed for public comment, along with the State Board of Medical Examiners, new rules authorizing pharmacists to engage in collaborative practice with licensed physicians. The notice of proposal appeared in the New Jersey Register on November 16, 2009 at 41 N.J.R. 4176(a) and the text of the proposed rules is available on the Division of Consumer Affairs website at http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/proposal/pharmpro_111609.htm. Following review of the public comments submitted in response to the joint proposal, the Board of Pharmacy has determined that changes to the proposed new rules are necessary to address concerns raised by the commenters with respect to the necessary training required for pharmacists to effectively engage in collaborative practice. In order to ensure that the intended joint reproposal of the collaborative practice regulations adequately addresses these concerns, the Board is seeking public input on the following questions:
1. What type of post-graduate training is necessary to qualify a pharmacist to engage in collaborative practice?
2. What components are necessary to constitute a clinical practice setting such that practice in the setting would qualify a pharmacist to engage in collaborative practice?
3. What experiential training is necessary to qualify a pharmacist to engage in collaborative practice, and should such training be disease-specific?
Comments on this pre-proposal should be sent by September 15, 2010 to:
Joanne Boyer, Executive Director
