Sudden Death Investigations

Following the Commissionís November 1979 report, efforts to reform the county medical examiner system were begun. However, none of the proposed revisions included the SCIís major recommendations that a statewide regional system of medical examiners be established, operating with accredited forensic pathologists in conjunction with the Institute of Forensic Science in Newark.
