The Pirates of Penzance
by Gilbert & Sullivan

Saturday, April 17th at 7:30pm
Sunday, April 18th at 3pm

Boheme Opera's maiden voyage into the world of Gilbert & Sullivan!

With this outrageously funny masterpiece, Boheme Opera New Jersey enters the world of Gilbert and Sullivan for the very first time. With the company's reputation for even casts and imaginative staging, Boheme is excited to be working with Broadway casting veteran Jamibeth Margolis as she continues to build her directorial career.  She and Artistic Director Joseph Pucciatti have assembled a fabulous group of Gilbert and Sullivan characters sure to entertain audiences from the very first note.

On the coast of Cornwall, at the time of Queen Victoria's reign, Frederic, a young man with a strong sense of duty, is celebrating the completion of his twenty-first year and the apparent end of his apprenticeship with a group of docile pirates.  The pirates' maid of all work, Ruth, reveals that, as Frederic's nursemaid long ago, she had made a curious mistake "through being hard of hearing," having misheard Frederic's father's instructions and apprenticing him to a pirate, instead of to a ship's pilot.  What ensues is the young man's adventure into love with the hysterical help of a sensitive and compassionate pirate clan from Penzance. You will revel in a compilation of great tunes as you meet the Pirate King, his lieutenant and their band of pirates, the Major General, his daughters and their chaperones, and the Sergeant of Police.  You will leave the theater humming and laughing!
