10:30 am & Noon;
60 minutes; Grades: 1-5; Auditorium; $2/person;

New Jersey’s dinosaurs were among the first
discovered in America, but we are still finding

diverse variety of dinosaurs that existed in ancient
New Jersey, as well as the rich history of dinosaur
paleontology in our area. Students may also learn
about the State Museum’s latest expeditions
and discoveries, and see actual dinosaur specimens.
Meet one of the Museum’s paleontologists
who can tell you the latest things that we have
learned about our prehistoric creatures.
Paleontology - How to Dig Up a Giant Dinosaur
10:30 am & Noon;
60 minutes; Grades: General Audience; Auditorium;
$2/person; Reservations Required
How do we find dinosaur fossils? What do we
do when we find the fossils? We don’t just
“dig” we “excavate.” What
tools do we use, and how do we use them? Most
important of all, how do scientists learn from
their work? A Museum paleontologist will share
his real “dig” experiences in New
Jersey and around the world, show you dinosaur
fossils, and answer your questions.
Rising Tide: Climate Change and New Jersey
10:30 am & Noon;
60 minutes; Grades: 4-12; Auditorium; $2/person;
Reservations Required
Lead by one of the State Museum’s Geologists/Paleontologists,
this program will illustrate and describe in detail
much of the overwhelming evidence for climate
and sea level change in New Jersey. Ice-Age fossils,
disappearing coastlines and vanishing communities
are just some of the topics illustrated in this
lively discussion of the effects that climate
change have had in the past, and the effects they
will have on the state in the future. Also, check-out

Rising Tide: New Jersey's Ice Age Beasts
10:30 am & Noon;
60 minutes; Grades: 1-9; Auditorium; $2/person;
Reservations Required
Just a few thousand years ago, New Jersey was
a frigid land covered by glaciers and tundra and
was home to many huge and bizarre beasts, called
the Pleistocene Megafauna. Many of these strange
creatures, like giant ground sloths and American
Mastodons, are now extinct. Others, though, are
still alive, but only in the frigid North Polar
Region. Learn about these animals, their environments,
and their extinction, and what these things tell
us about climatic changes, both past and present.
