2014 Essex County Senior Citizens Juried Art Show

Deadline: August 7, 2014

Essex County invites all visual artists, non-professional and professional, at least 60 years of age, and residing in Essex County to participate in the 2014 Essex County Senior Citizens Juried Art Show and Exhibition. Artists may submit two works of art completed within the last three years. The exhibition will run August 8th through September 2, 2014. Entry to the exhibition is free.

Juried Show of Contemporary Trompe l'oeil

The John F. Peto Studio Museum invites artists working in the trompe l'oeil style to participate in the National Juried Show of Contemporary Trompe l'oeil. Works in any medium (excluding photography) are encouraged. The purpose of this exhibition is to showcase contemporary art work that "fools the eye" and demonstrates the innovative ways in which artists continue to express themselves through trompe l'oeil.

Nimbus Dance Works seeks male and female company and apprentice dancers for the company's 2014-15 season. Dancers should have professional experience and excellent modern and ballet technique. Nimbus' repertory includes work by Artistic Director Samuel Pott and by guest choreographers including Pedro Ruiz, Francesca Harper, Xiao-xiong Zhang, Randy James, Huang Yi, Korhan Basaran and Charles Weidman. With a home studio in Jersey City, the company performs bi-annual home seasons in Jersey City, annually in New York City and on tour. The company also does extensive community and educational work weaving together high level concert dance and community involvement.

The "Festival of Art" is non-juried and open to all artists who are 21 years or older. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional work is welcome. The event will take place at the Lake Mohawk Pool. There will be wine tasting, food tasting, entertainment, and tents set up by the artists to sell their art and promote themselves.

The Paper Mill Playhouse announces open auditions for its Broadway Show Choir. The Show Choir is a tuition-free, audition based, performance show choir that stems from Paper Mill Playhouse's awardwinning Arts Education and Outreach programs. The choir consists of 40 to 50 singer/dancers between the ages of 16 and 22. Over the last two seasons, the choir reached more than 100,000 people with performances at major venues throughout the state.

New Jersey Highlands Coalition
Wildlife of the Highlands Exhibition
Call for Artists
Deadline: August 31, 2014

The second annual Highlands Festival at Waterloo will include a juried exhibit featuring art of the New Jersey Highlands. Artists are invited to submit work for this weekend-long celebration at Waterloo Village on September 20 and 21, 2014. Art and photography should feature flora, fauna, landscapes, or resources of the New Jersey Highlands. Accepted work will also be featured on the Festival's website and social media sites.

Pulaski Skyway Juried Exhibition

The Sumei Art Center is sponsoring a juried competition for artists to create and exhibit recent works with a cash prize for each of two categories: The best work documenting the existing Pulaski Skyway structure; and the best imaginative work using the Pulaski Skyway as inspiration or a point of departure. The guidelines and online application are now available for the 2015 USArtists International program. The program provides support for American dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo artists from across the country who have been invited to perform at significant international festivals and, new this year, performing arts markets anywhere in the world outside the United States and its territories. The application deadline for the first of three grant rounds of the 2015 program is for projects taking place between November 1, 2014 and October 31, 2015.

The Center for Contemporary Art is seeking work for its 2014 International Juried Exhibition. Evonne M. Davis, Co-founder and Artistic Director of Gallery Aferro in Newark, NJ will jury the show. The exhibition will consist of two- and three-dimensional work in all media. Awards will include a Solo Exhibition at The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster.

The purpose of this study is to describe the demographic profile, early exposure to arts education, income levels, benefits, and job satisfaction of U.S. cultural workers. MTV: Momentum Technology Videos
Call to women and transgender artists and filmmakers

The Institute for Women and Art (IWA) is seeking women and transgender artists working with technology, gender, and feminism for an opportunity to participate in an online directory and film festival. The directory and film festival are part of Momentum: Women/Art/Technology, an exploration into the intersection of technology, art practice and feminism. The juried works will appear on the IWA website in a video playlist that will run continuously, giving access to viewers 24/7. This is an opportunity for filmmakers and other screen artists to present work in a gallery without walls.

Joyce Indik New Jersey Wordsmith Competition

The Unlimited Potential Theater Co., a project of VSA New Jersey, is seeking poems, essays, short stories and plays for its 21st annual Joyce Indik New Jersey Wordsmith Competition. The contest is open to all New Jersey writers age 18 and over. Submissions by writers with disabilities are encouraged. Jazz Touring Network Membership Guidelines

The Jazz Touring Network is a presenter-based membership program designed to expand the presentation of jazz in the Mid Atlantic region. Members receive fee subsidies for jazz engagements that are part of network developed tours, and financial support to attend annual meetings that provide opportunities for professional development and peer interaction. The Jazz Touring Network is open to applications from nonprofit presenting organizations within the Mid Atlantic region that have limited experience presenting jazz and also work with communities under-served by the arts.

Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities (MARCH)
Omeka, Content Management System Workshop
Location: Rutgers University-Camden library
Date: August 26, 2014, 9:00am-2:30pm

This workshop is meant for galleries, libraries, archives and museums that would like to create an online exhibition, but don't know how to get started. Omeka is a free-to-inexpensive open-source content management system used by institutions from the Smithsonian Institution for their "Elvis at 21" exhibit to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's "Land of Penn and Plenty" exhibit. Omeka gives users flexibility in creating visually appealing digital exhibitions using your digital collections. This workshop will give participants a thorough introduction to Omeka.
