NJDOT employees donate
clothing and money to Florida DOT worker
Transportation Commissioner John J. Haley, Jr. announced today that NJDOT employees donated clothing and $1,100 dollars to Florida DOT worker Dave Walker, who lost his home in the recent fires that ravaged central Florida.
"I’m very proud and pleased about the outpouring of help to Dave Walker from NJDOT employees," Commissioner Haley said. "Although nothing can mitigate the loss of a home in such a devastating fire, we as fellow DOT employees want to let Dave and his family know that we care."
Through the assistance of Amtrak Acting President George Warrington, the clothing collected will be shipped on Amtrak trains from Trenton to Deland, Florida. Local 195 of the International Federal of Professional and Technical Engineers also donated $100 to Mr. Walker.
"We at Local 195 try to help people who are in need, such as the Walker family," said Dominick D. Critelli, Local 195 President. "We believe by doing so, in some way or another, it comes back to our membership when they are in need."
NOTE: The clothing and donations will be on display at the NJDOT Headquarters in Ewing on Tuesday, August 11, 1998. The address is 1035 Parkway Avenue, Trenton, NJ. Please call ahead to John Dourgarian to arrange for photo opportunity and/or interview with Commissioner Haley.
The clothing will be shipped via Amtrak’s Silver Star on Wednesday, August 12, 1998, at 12 Noon at Newark Penn Station. Commissioner Haley will be present to help load the donations on the train.
