NJDOT Cuts Ribbon on Route 70
Dualization Project in Ocean County

Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein today was joined by state and local officials to formally open the reconfiguration of Route 70 in Brick Township.

"Area residents and motorists who use Route 70 know firsthand how frustrating congestion can be. Growth and summer tourism has put a strain on this road, but relief is finally here," Commissioner Weinstein said. "I want to thank Senator Ciesla and Assemblymen Holzapfel and Wolfe for their longstanding support for this project. I know the residents of Ocean County will have an easier drive as a result."

The 4.7-mile project widens Route 70 from Jack Martin Boulevard to the former Brielle Circle in Wall Township by adding one 12-foot travel lane in each direction separated by a concrete median barrier. Eight intersections were also improved for safety and operational efficiency.

The project also included the reconfiguration of the former Brielle Circle. In May, the Acting Gov. DiFrancesco and Commissioner Weinstein officially opened the reconstructed interchange of routes 34, 35, and 70. The circle was replaced with a four-approach, signalized intersection and supporting ramps that allow motorists full access to any of the roads.

The $23 million project was constructed by B. Anthony Construction Corp. of Old Bridge, NJ.
