NJDOT to rehabilitate Route 21 in Newark, Belleville, Nutley, Clifton and Passaic

 


(Trenton)- Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will resurface 5.57 miles of Route 21 northbound and southbound in Newark, Belleville, and Nutley in Essex County and Clifton and Passaic in Passaic County.

“This $9 million project will improve the condition of Route 21 throughout a highly congested, nine mile segment of Route 21 in Essex and Passaic counties,” said Commissioner Kolluri.

Starting April 7, 2008, NJDOT will close one lane in each direction from Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning, NJDOT will close two lanes of Route 21 in each direction. From Friday to Sunday, NJDOT will close one lane in each direction at 10 p.m. and close the second lane at 11 p.m. All lanes will be reopened at 5 a.m. the next day. NJDOT will resurface Route 21 northbound from milepost 5.01 to 10.57, and Route 21 southbound from milepost 6.20 to 10.5. All work is weather permitting.

The $9 million project is scheduled for completion in October 2008.
