NJDOT announces Route 29
(Trenton)—The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the start of a drainage improvement and resurfacing project on Route 29 from Old River Road in West Amwell Township to Feeder Street in Lambertville, Hunterdon County.
“This $2.2 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project will improve infrastructure and improve safety conditions on Route 29 while stimulating economic investment and job creation,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.
On September 14, NJDOT will begin construction to improve the drainage system along Route 29 in order to facilitate better drainage of storm-water from the roadway.
“By improving drainage and eliminating flooding and icing hazards, this project will enhance safety along this stretch of Route 29,” said Transportation Commissioner Stephen Dilts.
Once NJDOT has completed the drainage improvements, the roadway will then be resurfaced to provide a smoother asphalt surface. The project is anticipated to be complete in June, 2010.
NJDOT may conduct single lane closures with alternating traffic on Mondays to Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to Saturdays at 8 a.m., on Saturdays from 7:30 p.m. to Sundays at 8 a.m., and on Sundays from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Mondays.
Variable message signs will notify motorists of any upcoming traffic pattern changes on Route 29. NJDOT provides emergency roadway information, construction schedule updates and real time traffic information and images at www.nj511.info.
ARRA will stimulate New Jersey's economy by creating or supporting thousands of transportation-related jobs and making long-term improvements to roads, bridges and the transit system. New Jersey's transportation allocation includes $652 million for highways and bridges and approximately $425 million for transit. That total includes approximately $164 million for county and local transportation priorities and approximately $19.5 million for transportation enhancement projects.
