Interstate 295 southbound resurfacing project announced in Logan Township

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a project to resurface more than three miles of Interstate 295 southbound from south of Repaupo Road (Exit 14) to just north of Raccoon Creek in Logan Township, Gloucester County.

NJDOT’s contractor, Arawak Paving Company, Inc., is scheduled to start preliminary construction activities including site mobilization and sign installation tomorrow, June 15, requiring shoulder closures.

The $1.9 million project will mill and resurface I-295 southbound with a new surface course of asphalt pavement from milepost 11.26 to milepost 14.48, including the ramps at the interchange with Route 322 (Exit 11). This concentrated effort to repair the deficient roadway will extend the lifespan of this stretch of highway and provide a safer ride for motorists. All existing guide rail within the project limits will be upgraded as well.

Work requiring single-lane closures will be performed at night in order to minimize traffic impacts on I-295, an important north-south highway. NJDOT will maintain all travel lanes on I-295 between:

• 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday
• 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday
• 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday
• Southbound ramp repaving work will require periodic nightly detours.

I-295 southbound carries approximately 21,000 vehicles per day through this busy stretch of highway. The project will be coordinated with ongoing maintenance repairs on adjacent Route 130 in Logan. Dynamic message signs will notify motorists of upcoming traffic pattern changes. Construction is scheduled for completion this fall 2012.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.

In 2009, NJDOT completed a major $77 million pavement rehabilitation of Interstate 295 in both directions from Repaupo Road (Exit 14) up to Route 45 (Exit 24) just to the north of the new project limits.
