Route 4 overnight lane closures this week for maintenance resurfacing of ramps and acceleration lanes in Bergen County

Mainline travel lanes will be maintained during construction

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a maintenance resurfacing project on Route 4 that will require ramp and lane closures between Fair Lawn and Paramus in Bergen County.

Beginning tonight, Monday, November 27, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning, and continuing each night this week through Friday, December 1, NJDOT’s contractor, Schifano Construction Corp., is scheduled to close a single lane on Route 4 beginning at approximately 37th Street and East Amsterdam Avenue in Fair Lawn (mile post 1.8) through a half-mile east of the Forest Avenue interchange in Paramus (mile post 4.8) to mill and pave ramps, acceleration and deceleration lanes over a 2.7-mile stretch of the roadway.

Route 4 varies from two to four lanes through the project limits, and at least one lane will be maintained throughout construction. The mainline was paved earlier this year. Ramps will be closed and detoured to the next available exit as necessary. The work is being coordinated with local police and will be done overnight to minimize disruptions to traffic and businesses through this busy corridor.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
