Route 22 reopened in both directions following completion of emergency bridge repairs in Newark
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced all lanes on Route 22 in both directions reopened at approximately noon today following the completion of emergency bridge repairs in Newark.
One lane in each direction of Route 22 just west of Mile Post 58.5 closed on Tuesday night, March 19 to repair loose concrete from a railroad overpass that was discovered during an inspection. NJDOT’s contractor, IEW Corp., has been working since Tuesday to remove the loose concrete. Structural engineers from NJDOT and Conrail, which owns the bridge, have evaluated the bridge. Conrail will determine if further work is needed in the future.
