Route 206 weekend lane closure required over Crusers Brook in Somerset County to install precast culvert

Alternating traffic necessary as bridge deck replacement advances

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the closure of Route 206 northbound with alternating traffic this weekend in Montgomery as the Route 206 Bridge over Crusers Brook project advances.

Beginning at 9 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, April 12, until 9 a.m., Sunday, April 14, NJDOT's contractor, Joseph M. Sanzari, Inc. is scheduled to close Route 206 northbound, and maintain alternating traffic on Route 206 southbound over Crusers Brook to install a precast concrete culvert on the east side of the roadway. The northbound lane will reopen Sunday morning back to the current configuration with a work zone on the east side of the bridge. This configuration is expected to be in place until the fall as the northbound lane of the bridge is reconstructed and utility work is completed. Route 206 normally maintains one lane in each direction over Crusers Brook.

The $5.9 million dollar federally-funded project will replace the bridge deck and substructure, and make significant improvements to the superstructure. The project is designed in stages to minimize impacts to traffic and maintain one lane of traffic in both directions during peak traffic periods. Replacement of the bridge deck is expected to be completed in the fall of 2019.

Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. NJDOT will provide more information before any lane closures are scheduled.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
