Route 18 southbound overnight lane closure needed to implement traffic shift this weekend in Middlesex County
Traffic shift needed for curb repair work
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a temporary overnight lane closure required to shift traffic on Route 18 between Matawan Road and Southwood Drive in Old Bridge as the pavement rehabilitation project advances in Middlesex County.
Beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow night, Friday, May 3 until 7 a.m., Saturday, May 4, NJDOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt, is scheduled to close the left lane of Route 18 southbound, between Matawan Road and Southwood Drive, and implement a traffic shift towards the shoulder. The shift will reduce the lane widths while maintaining all current lanes. The shift will allow for center median curb repair work.
The $14.2 million federally-funded Route 18, South of Texas Road to Rues Lane, Pavement Improvement project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow by makin
g improvements to six miles of deteriorated pavement and the installation of pedestrian safety devices. The project is expected to be completed in late fall 2019.
Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
