Route 130 southbound overnight lane closure as Doctors Creek and Crosswicks Creek bridge project advances

Closure necessary to shift traffic to begin next phase of construction

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the overnight closure of the right lane of Route 130 southbound between Church Street and Groveville Road to implement a shift traffic as the Bridge over Doctors Creek and Crosswicks Creek replacement project advances in Mercer and Burlington Counties.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, June 21, until 6 a.m. Saturday, June 22, NJDOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt Co., is expected to close the right lane on Route 130 southbound between Church Street/CR609 in Hamilton and Groveville Road in Bordentown to shift traffic to the newly constructed left lane. One lane will be maintained overnight.
The traffic shift will be in place until fall 2019 to allow for superstructure improvements and deck replacements on the right side of the two southbound bridges.

Oversize trucks will continue to be detoured from Route 130 in both directions until fall 2019 with the following detour in place. Trucks are not allowed to use Local and County Roads.

Route 130 northbound/Route 206 Truck Detour:

  • Trucks traveling northbound on Route 130/Route 206 will be directed onto Route 206 northbound
  • Take I-195 westbound
  • Take Exit 1A for I-295 southbound to I-195 eastbound
  • To I-195 East to Exit 5 to Route 130 northbound

Route 130 southbound Truck Detour:

  • Trucks traveling southbound on Route 130 will be directed to I-195 westbound
  • Take Exit 1A for I-295 southbound
  • Take Exit 56 to Route 130 southbound

During construction, at least one lane on Route 130 traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. NJDOT will provide more information on the schedule of the lane closures as the project advances.

NJDOT has designed work on the $7.2 million federally-funded Route 130 Bridges over Doctors Creek and Bridge over Crosswicks Creek improvement project to be performed in stages. The project will replace the superstructure and bridge deck on the two bridges. The bridges are located approximately 500 feet apart on Route 130 between Hamilton, Mercer County and Bordentown, Burlington County. The project is expected to be completed in early 2020.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
