Dredged material management is a fact
of life in the Monmouth/Ocean County region.
The local economy and quality of life
depends heavily on the marine trade industry,
the counties role as a tourism destination,
the recreational and commercial boating
and fishing that takes place along the
bi-county coastline, and, in the maintenance
of state navigation channels. The goal
of efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally
beneficial dredged material management
requires a federal, state, and local partnership.
Over eighty attendees gathered to listen
to an expert panel of state and federal
officials discuss factual information,
dredged material management strategies,
funding sources, planning, beneficial
use, and marketing aspects of dredging
and dredged material management.
MODC, NJDOT/OMR and the Marine Trades
Association of New Jersey planned "Permitting
101, an intensive education and
awareness permitting how-to
session, which took place on April 6,
2004.
