Coast Day New Jersey
Ocean and Cape May Counties
Coast Day NJ is hosted by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium/New Jersey Sea Grant to celebrate New Jersey's $80 billion coastal economy and its importance to all New Jersey. The New Jersey Department of Transportation's Office of Maritime Resources (NJDOT/OMR) is a partner and sponsor of this family-oriented, educational event focused on increasing public knowledge and appreciation of New Jersey’s maritime industries - from commercial and recreational fishing to ocean shipping at our world-class ports, and clean, efficient marine transportation.
Coast Day NJ activities include nature walks and "mini" eco-tours, boat and dock tours, maritime music, seafood tastings and "please touch" exhibits. The entire day is programmed to educate participants about the New Jersey coast and the need to act responsibly to sustain its bountiful coastal communities. University researchers, marine educators, government agencies, and municipalities all participate.
On the second Sunday of October each year, an estimated 5000 visitors make their way to COAST DAY NJ. The event is held on the docks of Cape May’s Lobster House Restaurant and at several other nearby sites.
In 2010, COAST DAY NJ will be held on Sunday October 10.
