The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) introduced a fast delivery system that it calls "hyperbuild" in 2005 for ready-to-go projects with no right of way or environmental delays. The result: safer travel conditions.
More than $600 million and 48 construction years are the projected savings in the first hyperbuild projects to get off the drawing board.
Using faster and innovative design and construction techniques, the first hyperbuild project, three bridges over Route 1 in Trenton, already saves millions of taxpayer dollars and eliminates more than a year of interference with motorist traffic patterns.
Major hyperbuild projects under way in 2006 include I-78 in Union County and I-280 in Essex County.
