Overview

Sharing your ride to work - in a carpool, vanpool, bus, train, shuttles or a combination of these is called ridesharing. Commuting just 15 miles each way can cost as much as $ 1,764 per year. Sharing the ride with just one other person can cut your commuting costs in half.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and its transportation management associations (TMAs) statewide can match you with others who wish to share a ride to the same destination. You can fill out an application and request a matchlist of possible commute partners. The TMAs can also provide you with information about telecommuting and alternative work schedules.

The park and ride locator is a good source of information for planning your ridesharing options.
