Route I-295 Pavement Improvements

Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel Townships

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
How will motorists learn about changing traffic patterns?
A. NJDOT will provide information on variable message signs in the travel corridor and radio traffic services. Motorists may go online to NJCommuter then to SmarTraveler (or # 211) for information on this project. Since the project is substantially complete, no further significant impacts to the motoring public are anticipated.

Q.
How will the contractor close lanes?
A. The contractor will close lanes by first installing all the appropriate advance signing as called for in the contract and in close coordination with the state and local police. Any further lane closures for corrective work will be done during off-peak travel times.

Q.
What are motorist-friendly new features in this project?
A. Full inside shoulders will be provided for the use by disabled vehicles and emergency response teams. The highway lighting and guide rails will be upgraded to the current state and federal design standards. Vertical under clearance of 14’ 6” will be provided at all underpass structures. New striping, raised pavement markers and delineators will be provided.

Five additional close circuit cameras and two variable message signs will be installed to monitor traffic and provide information to the motorists of the traffic conditions.

Q.
Why did we do this work?
A. The extensive deterioration of roadway pavement and bridge decks, substandard roadway geometry, increased traffic volumes have contributed to an unsatisfactory ride and an increase in number of accidents on Route I-295.

Q.
Did local officials and residents participate in the planning?
A. This project was designed in cooperation with Camden and Burlington counties and Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel township officials.

Q.
Who is the Resident Engineer?
A. Vince Baglivo is the NJDOT Resident Engineer who will oversee the day to day construction activities. NJDOT staff will be on the job during all construction activities.

Q.
Who is the contractor?
A. Richard E. Pierson Construction Co. Inc., Woodstown.
