Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why is this work being done?
A. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce accidents at the existing intersection of Route 70 and Route 73 by replacing the obsolete Marlton Circle with a grade separated interchange. The improvements will separate Route 73 traffic and Route 70 traffic through the construction of an overpass.

Q. Who is doing this work?
A.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) in March 2009 awarded the construction contract to South State Inc. of Bridgeton, New Jersey.

Q. How much will it cost?
A. The total construction cost for this project is an estimated $31 million. The project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Q. How long will it take to complete?
A.

The work is scheduled to take place between April 2009 and November 2011. It will be done in stages in order to minimize construction impacts on the community and expedite construction.

As of November 2011, the project is substantially complete with only corrective action items remaining. Construction of the Centre Boulevard and Route 73 intersection improvements will begin in March 2012 and are scheduled for completion in July 2012.

Q. Will the project entail detours and delays?
A. No detours are planned. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction on Route 70 and Route 73 from Monday through Sunday between 6 am and 9 pm. NJDOT will maintain access to all properties and businesses during construction.

Q. Where can travelers obtain information?
A. Traffic information will be provided on variable message signs along Route 70 and Route 73 and on NJDOT's NJ511 Travel Information Web site and NJ511 phone system.

Q. Is the community involved?
A.

NJDOT is working with municipal and county officials, business owners, and state and local police. NJDOT held public meetings and information centers throughout the project design process in order to provide the community information about the planned improvements.

Q. Whom can I contact for further information?
A.

Construction updates and real time traffic information will be provided on NJDOT's Web site.

In addition, a local Evesham Township steering committee will provide updates on construction.
