temporary detours graphic

The detours for the for current projects will utilize state and county roadways. A minimal number of local streets will be included in the detour routes for the ramp closures on the Pulaski Skyway. Route 139 Hoboken and Conrail Viaduct detours will affect local streets in Jersey City.

Take time to travel smarter.

The following detours will be in place to facilitate the flow of traffic during the closure of the Pulaski Skyway northbound lanes. Traffic engineers and local police will be monitoring key intersections on local Jersey City streets.

  • The southbound Pulaski Skyway exit ramp to Raymond Boulevard in Newark is closed. It is necessary to close this ramp to facilitate the replacement of the deck. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will be signing a detour (pdf 1.2m) along Route 1&9 southbound to Wilson Avenue and Doremus Avenue to accommodate motorists diverted away from this Pulaski Skyway exit ramp.

  • The Broadway entrance ramp to the southbound lanes of the Pulaski Skyway will be closed till 2020. NJDOT will be signing a detour (pdf 213k) along Route 1&9 T southbound to accomodate motorists diverted away from this Pulaski Skyway entrance.

  • The Kearny southbound exit and northbound entrance ramps will be closed till fall 2020. Motorists will be detoured onto Route 1&9 T as indicated on the Kearny southbound exit ramp detour (pdf 216k) and Kearny northbound entrance ramp detour (pdf 280k) diagrams.

  • Now open
  • Due to operational concerns with the added traffic on
Route 1&9 T, the Route 1&9 T southbound left-turn movement onto Communipaw Avenue has been eliminated. Motorists wishing to make this move will be detoured (pdf 183k):

    • Motorists will be directed southbound on Route 440 to the Hudson Mall jughandle at Virginia Avenue. Motorists will
U-turn at this jughandle and travel north to make a right onto Communipaw Avenue.
