A.

NJDOT has coordinated with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management on this project. Traffic control and lane closures during construction will be accomplished by using traffic cones, breakaway barricades, and drums, which can all be quickly removed from the Route 72 Bridge so that it can be fully opened for traffic movement in case of an emergency.

Q.
Is the community involved?
A.

Yes. NJDOT has held a local officials' briefing and a pre-construction Public Information Center to answer questions and address comments from interested parties.

The NJDOT has made every effort to plan construction activities in a manner that will minimize impacts on traffic. Throughout the calendar year there are various weekday and weekend limitations on lane closures along this section of Route 72. NJDOT's contractor will be required to comply with these restrictions.

In addition, the municipalities on Long Beach Island have supplied NJDOT with schedules of special events planned throughout the year. The contractor will not be permitted to close lanes on the Route 72 Bridge on these special event dates.

Q.
Where can travelers obtain information?
A. Information will be provided on variable message signs placed on Route 72 and on NJDOT's NJ511 Travel Information Web site. The Trips123 Web site will provide travel information. Travelers may also contact NJDOT's Office of Community Relations at 609.530.2110.
