Statewide Traffic Records Coordinating Committee(STRCC)

New Jersey’s Statewide Traffic Records Coordinating Committee (STRCC) is a multidisciplinary team that includes owners, operators, collectors and users of traffic records and public health and injury data systems; highway safety and infrastructure, law enforcement and adjudication officials; health and emergency medical services, driver licensing and motor carrier agencies and organizations that works to improve the collection, management, and analysis of traffic safety data at the State level.

The establishment of a Traffic Records Committee is a recommended practice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and is needed to receive federal funding for traffic records systems.

“High-quality State traffic records data is critical to effective safety programming, operational management, and strategic planning. Every State—in cooperation with its local, regional, and Federal partners—should maintain a traffic records system that supports the data-driven, science-based decision-making necessary to identify problems; develop, deploy, and evaluate countermeasures; and efficiently allocate resources.”

-- NHTSA Traffic Records Program Assessment Advisory

New Jersey’s STRCC meets quarterly with its partners to strive to maintain and enhance statewide traffic records systems to reduce and eliminate fatalities and serious injuries on New Jersey’s roadways. The STRCC developed the following mission statement in 2003 and is still guided by those words:

“It is the mission of the Statewide Traffic Records Coordinating Committee (STRCC) to facilitate a comprehensive, statewide traffic records system that integrates all traffic related data in the areas of engineering, education, enforcement, and emergency medical services. This is to be accomplished through our commitment to provide timely, accurate, complete, accessible, uniform, and integrated traffic records to all end users for the development of successful safety programs.”

For additional information and assistance regarding the STRCC please e-mail the State STRCC Chair and Section Chief for Data and Crash Records, or call 609.530.8039.
