Vehicle Classification
Vehicle Classification Counts are collected at our permanent Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) Sites. NJDOT classify vehicles based on modified FHWA vehicle classification scheme. Automatic vehicle classifiers need an algorithm to interpret axle spacing information to correctly classify vehicles into these categories. The algorithm we use is based on axle spacing and weight combination for specific vehicle types.
