Related to economic development, the Transit Connection Initiative:

  • supports several public and private agencies in the immediate area, including New Brunswick Development Corporation (Devco), Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the New Brunswick Parking Authority, Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and the New Jersey Cancer Institute that have designed and are moving forward with two significant projects representing over 750,000 square feet of new research, clinical and mixed used facilities with an expected total investment of over $420 million.
  • solidifies the URT and New Jersey Stem Cell Institute as accessible research and medical centers on the Northeast Corridor through an upgraded rail access.

Innovative aspects of the Transit Connection are that it harnesses the existing passenger rail and transit system to support a key cluster of research institutions.
