Overview
Over the
past several years, the
New Jersey Department of
Transportation (NJDOT)
has been working with counties,
municipalities, and other
stakeholders to re-invest
in New Jersey's communities.
Known as NJFIT or Future
In Transportation, this
effort is conducted in
partnership with the Office
of Smart Growth (OSG) and
other state agencies. NJDOT
continues to build on these
partnerships to improve
quality of life in the
state of New Jersey.
The current
land use development in
New Jersey can not be maintained
and compromises future
generation's needs. Current
developments in transportation
also contribute to unsustainable
conditions that include
greenhouse gas emissions,
energy insecurity, congestion
and environmental impacts.
NJFIT changed the way NJDOT
does business in New Jersey
by using a comprehensive
and cooperative approach
to transportation and land
use planning. Working with
community planners, we can
keep jobs, goods and services
within reach of every New
Jersey citizen and reinvest
in our infrastructure by
shaping transportation to
fit into the environment
of our communities.
