Cobra Members Being Offered
Special Open Enrollment In Federal Marketplace

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has informed us that there is a Special Open Enrollment period in the Health Insurance Marketplace being held for qualified members enrolled in COBRA.  This Open Enrollment period runs through July 1, 2014.

You may be able to get coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace that costs less than COBRA continuation coverage. Being offered COBRA continuation coverage won’t limit your eligibility for coverage or for a tax credit through the Marketplace.

To find out if you qualify to enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace during this Special Open enrollment period, call 1-800-318-2596 or visit https://www.healthcare.gov/what-if-i-currently-have-cobra-coverage/  You will need to inform the Marketplace call center representative that you are calling about your COBRA benefits and the Marketplace.

Should you qualify and decide to enroll in the Marketplace you will need to terminate your benefits with the SHBP/SEHBP in writing, otherwise you will continue to be billed your monthly premiums.

Please direct any questions about this Special Open Enrollment to the Health Insurance Marketplace call center at 1-800-318-2596.
