Employers' Pensions and Benefits Administration Manual (EPBAM)

Information by Employer Task

The Legislative Retirement System (LRS) of the
Public Employees' Retirement System

Technically, members of the Legislative Retirement System (LRS) are in a subcategory of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  Because the conditions that affect LRS employment — namely periodic elections, are unique to enrolled members of the State legislature, there are special provisions for retirement that need to be outlined separately.

Please note that newly elected officials, those elected on or after July 1, 2007, are to be enrolled in the DCRP ONLY and cannot enroll in the PERS (including the PERS Legislative Retirement System, closed to new members as of July 1, 2007), see the DCRP Enrollments section of this manual.

For additional information about the pension and benefits associated with a Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) membership, please consult the PERS Member Handbook. In addition, the PERS Legislative Retirement System Addendum provides information about membership and benefits specific for PERS LRS members.
