Facebook Terms of Participation

The Division of Taxation uses Facebook to communicate New Jersey tax policies and practices. The Division welcomes comments from the public, businesses, and tax professionals at any time when the Division is accepting postings and/or comments. The Division invites anyone who adheres to the following terms to join the conversation. By interacting with any content on or made available through the Division of Taxation’s official Facebook site, you accept and agree to meet these terms:

The Division will review postings and links to ensure content is appropriate. It will remove inappropriate material from public view. Appropriate means that the postings are relevant to the New Jersey Division of Taxation’s government business and functions, are responsive to the issues(s) being discussed, and phrased in respectful language that is appropriate for public discourse. Posts such as listed below are not appropriate: 

  • Profane, abusive, vulgar, or pornographic
  • Offensive terms that target specific ethnic or racial groups
  • Harassment or defamation
  • Personal attacks of any kind (towards followers or Division of Taxation personnel)
  • Threats of physical or bodily harm
  • Encouragement of illegal activity
  • Promotion of services or products
  • Political activity or any posting that solicits or promotes any not-for-profit, religious, political or personal causes
  • Repetitive posts by the same user or multiple users
  • Off-topic posts
  • Posts that contain confidential, proprietary, or otherwise restricted information
  • Material that infringes on any patent, trademark, copyright, or other proprietary rights.

The Division also prohibits unapproved posts or comments that provide advice or opinions on tax matters by employees of the Division of Taxation, the Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services, or by any other unit of New Jersey State government that administers or oversees collections of New Jersey State taxes or fees.

Within the limits of Facebook’s monitoring capabilities and regulations, the Division will remove inappropriate material as quickly and completely as possible. The New Jersey Division of Taxation also reserves the right to use any means provided by Facebook to block users who include inappropriate content in posts, including posting of inappropriate links.

The Division of Taxation will monitor its Facebook site during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Inappropriate posts made during non-business hours or at other times when resources aren’t available will be removed when Division personnel become available.

The Division of Taxation may include useful links created and maintained by other information providers. When posting these links, the Division does not imply any endorsement or other warranty or representation of the content located at any third-party linked site.

In no event shall the Division, or any of its employees be held liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from any use or inability to use the Division's Facebook site.

Privacy & Personal Information 

Do not include any personally identifying information such as Social Security numbers, addresses or email addresses in any posts, comments, or Facebook messages or emails to the Division.  

By posting on this Facebook page, you give the New Jersey Division of Taxation the irrevocable right to reproduce, distribute, adapt, publish, publicly display, edit, modify, delete, translate, create derivative works from, and otherwise use your submission for any purpose, in any form, and on any media. Any comments that are submitted (even if not posted) may become part of state governmental records, may be archived for a period of time, and may become subject to public inspection, i.e., pursuant to the Open Public Records Act, unless specifically exempted by law.

Press, Taxpayer Representatives, Legal Submissions

The Division of Taxation does not provide public answers to tax or taxpayer-specific questions through Facebook or any other social media system.  Social media sites are not intended for press and taxpayer-specific communications.  Members of the media should contact the New Jersey Department of Treasury with all questions. Taxpayers and practitioners requesting information about a specific taxpayer or tax-related issue should send contact the Division through the Division's contact page.

Neither Facebook nor any other social media site may be used for the submission of any refund claim, informal or formal protest, or any other form of legal and/or administrative notice of process or for the exhaustion of any legal and/or administrative remedy.


Twitter Terms of Participation
