Database Administrator
New Jersey Turnpike AuthorityPOSITION OBJECTIVE
Under the general direction of the Sr. Database Administrator, ensures the continued availability of major database management systems (DBMS) at performance and reliability levels suitable to meet Authority requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in the design and development of all database systems. Responsible for implementing systems to design standards. Develops systems including overall logic, implementation, time, and data control.
- Administers database systems consistent with Authority's standards and policies on Computer Security and Data Integrity. Monitors database and network activity and performs tuning to maintain optimal performance on the database server and workstations.
- Evaluates and recommends non-Oracle solutions to database application needs where appropriate.
- Manages DBMS client and associated platforms such as Oracle Applications Server and report and forms development infrastructure.
- Sets up and manages users on the database. Resolves database and user problems and works with Software Support to resolve extraordinary database problems.
- Monitors and maintains integrity of Standby Databases at Disaster Recovery Site and safeguards the physical database files through backup and recovery procedures Performs other tasks / functions as required. Maintains technical proficiency and skills through outside education and training.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR RELATIONSHIPS:
Has responsibility for maintaining harmonious working relationships with this and other departments and individuals in the Turnpike organization necessary for obtaining the objectives of the position.
MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Three (3) years experience in design and management of database systems.
- Administrative aptitude for effective organization and administration of database systems. In-depth knowledge of relational database concepts with ability to use Structure Query Language (SQL) and database tools.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Oracle database and enterprise class (UNIXNMS) operating systems. Peoplesoft experience strongly desired. Experience with non-Oracle database management systems such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and DB2 preferred. Basic knowledge of PC based computing platforms and networks.

Project Supervisor (Construction-Structures)
New Jersey Turnpike AuthorityPOSITION OBJECTIVES
Coordinates design and execution of engineering projects to completion, serving as liaison between the Authority and consultants.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develops scope of work and proposal documents for design projects which comply with the Authority requirements.
- Coordinates the execution of the complete engineering design of an assigned project including liaison with consultant.
- Reviews and responds to inquiries and concerns from other Authority departments, outside agencies and patrons.
- Provides technical assistance and other functions for special Authority projects.
- Performs individual engineering work relating to the design of all types of Authority facilities.
- Reviews plans and calculations prepared by consultants; reviews improvements by others, abutting the Turnpike and Parkway.
- Investigates problems and recommends solutions associated with new or existing facilities.
- Reviews and recommends for approval, requests by outside agencies to perform work on NJTA rightof-way.
- Reviews and coordinates maintenance and protection of traffic plans with the Turnpike and Parkway Operations Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RELATIONSHIPS
Maintains a cooperative working relationship with consulting engineers, outside agencies, superiors and others in the engineering Department and throughout the Turnpike organization. Displays a flexible and adaptable attitude. Demonstrates leadership, initiative, good work ethics and team spirit, thus contributes positively to the Highway Design Section’s overall performance.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Ability to obtain NJ Professional Engineer license. Two (2) or more years of professional engineering experience, preferably containing a mix of design, contract document preparation, contract review, and/or construction supervision/management relating to various types of civil highway engineering projects. Knowledge of MS Office, Auto CADD or Micro Station preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Fiber Optic EngineerPOSITION OBJECTIVE
Works under the general direction of the Manager of Network Design and Administration to ensure that the functionality, stability, security, and expandability of the Authority’s data, voice, and video network infrastructure is commensurate with the Authority’s goals and requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists the Manager of Network Design and Administration with the cost-effective design, component selection and procurement, implementation, maintenance, security, and management of a robust, flexible, highly available voice, video and data network that meets the approved needs of the Authority and its business partners.
- Ensure reliability and availability of the voice, video and data network.
- Coordinates analysis and stability of network through creation of policies and best practices.
- Proactively assists in defining direction for future technology, infrastructure, and architecture projects.
- Interfaces with both internal and external network users to recommend appropriate courses of action with respect to networking technical and infrastructure issues.
- Tracks projects and prepares schedules which include general progress, technical and service compliance, and problem summaries.
- Interfaces with both Authority purchasing mechanisms and vendors engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network equipment to ensure timely, competitive, and cost-effective delivery of materials and services.
- Manages inventory of networking equipment.
- Plans and monitors network security policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of networking experience
- Extensive knowledge in Cisco ONS 15454 DWDM.
- Extensive knowledge in configuration and maintenance of AirSpan HiperMAX.
- Working knowledge in LANs, WANs, WLAN, VOIP, and network security.
- Expert in advanced WAN Protocols (BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP).
- Current major relevant vendor certification (CCNA required, CCNP preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Reviews billing information for lease circuits and cellular services. Manages and provides services for Authority issued cellular services. Manages inventory of all voice equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive knowledge in installation, configuration, and maintenance of NEC, Cisco and Avaya platforms. Five (5) years of voice experience. Extensive knowledge in VOIP and TDM. Solid understanding of VMware/Virtualization, DHCP, TCP/IP, LANs, WANs, LINUX, and Windows environment. Current major relevant vendor certifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, telecommunications, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Valid driver’s license.

Part-Time Employment Opportunities
- Part-Time Toll Collector
- Position: Part-Time Toll Collector
- Starting Salary: $12 per hour
- Locations: Multiple (but will attempt to place close to home)
- Schedule: 20 hours per work week (MUST be available for rotating shifts and locations)
- Training: Approximately 2 to 4 days of paid training
- Requirements for the above position:
- Must be at least 18 years old

- Pre-employment physical, including drug screen
- Must be bondable (pass criminal background check)

Internships
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority offers law students the opportunity to serve as volunteer/unpaid interns in the Law Department during fall or spring semesters or during summer. The Law Department regularly addresses an array of legal issues involving public procurement; administrative law; real estate, contract and environmental law; and litigation. If accepted into the program, students will perform law clerk responsibilities, including legal research and writing, and will have the opportunity to observe a range of lawyering activity. Students participating in the program may also have the opportunity to attend court proceedings, meetings, depositions, and other special events.
