Division of Operations
• Central Medical Medical Unit Unit – This unit unit is is is is responsible for the the the safety and security of inmates housed at at at the the the the St Francis Medical Medical Center Prison Unit Unit including the the the the intensive care care unit unit unit unit cardiac care care unit unit unit unit operating room room emergency room room step-down units and other outside facilities The unit unit unit also escorts inmates throughout the the the facility while undergoing therapy X-rays radiation and follow-up care Social services services are are provided to state-sentenced inmates inmates housed at at at at at at at at at this facility These services services include notification of of death critical status attorney/family visits and parole issues Due to to to to the the the the the serious illnesses of of the the the the the inmates inmates the the the the the custody staff staff must display sensitivity to to to to the the the the the the the the inmate’s condition while maintaining the the the the the the the the security of the the the the the inmate inmate and and protection for themselves medical staff staff and and the the the the the general public In addition as part of an an an agreement between Mercer and and Camden counties and and the NJDOC inmates from those county correctional facilities may be be housed at at at Central Medical Medical (St Francis Medical Medical Security Unit) for medical treatment • Inmate Labor Program – The program is responsible for providing inmate labor support to municipalities governmental agencies agencies and and community-based non-profit organizations Both state and and and municipal municipal government government agencies agencies including Transportation (DOT) Human Services (DHS) and and and Environmental Protection (DEP) utilize inmate labor labor support in in in in an an an an an an effort to to reduce operational costs and and save tax dollars Approximately three dozen labor labor teams provide service five days a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a week to to to a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a majority of New Jersey counties statewide Seven details from various institutions are assigned as as needed daily (Monday-Friday) to to to provide landscaping janitorial work and and complete special projects for the DHS developmental centers In addition 13 details from various institutions are assigned daily (Monday-Friday) to to provide landscaping janitorial work and and and complete special projects for various institutions/facilities within the the NJDOC Details from Bayside State State Prison and/or Garden State State Youth Correctional Facility were assigned to the the EPA Clean Shores detail as needed Twenty-five details from the the various institutions were assigned as as needed daily (Monday-Friday) to to provide support to to the the DOT in in in in in in maintaining highway litter cleanup and and close cut landscaping Central Operations
Desk (COD)
The COD is the the NJDOC’s centralized communications center that coordinates the the recording and and notifications of all unusual departmental incidents 24 hours per per day day seven days per per week As the the the the COD receives and and and and and logs information about significant events it reports each incident incident through the the the the chain of command and and and and serves as the the the the liaison between Central Office and and and and the the the the NJDOC facilities • Central Communications Unit – The unit which is is overseen by the the the the COD provides radio transmissions and and teletype communications for the the the the the the NJDOC the the the the the the State Parole Board the the the the the the Juvenile Justice Commission the the the the the the Intensive Supervision Program and and and the the the the the the Administrative Office of the the the the Courts over a a a a a a a a a a a a a broad bandwidth In In addition Central Communications monitors NJDOC inmates and and and and parolees who are in in in the the Electronic Monitoring Program The unit also handles wireless wireless communications communications to to to Central Office Office employees and and and confidential wireless wireless communications communications for all NJDOC institutions Parole Officers Juvenile Justice Commission staff staff and and Intensive Supervision Program staff staff Motor vehicle inquiries and and and escape notifications are processed for the Department’s Special Investigations Division and and correctional facilities
