Class Time: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

Important Class Information: Attendance on day one is required. If you are unable to do so, please notify your agency’s training coordinator and the Registration Team 10 days prior to the class start date.

Special Note: This course is NOT intended for supervisors and managers.


Course Description

Earn the respect of your peers and lead without the title. This two-day training program is designed for individuals who are not formally in supervisor or management positions, but who would like to develop their leadership skills and discover how they can lead from their current roles in their organizations. Focusing on the importance of both self-awareness and organizational awareness, this course will introduce participants to the core skills and abilities associated with effective leadership in today’s government workforce. It will also teach participants how to apply such skills in their daily interactions and work efforts to become an essential part of the organization and establish a leadership presence.

Through various interactive group discussions and activities, participants will gain a better understanding of their own leadership style and how to modify their preferred style in different situations. In addition, participants will learn methods for practicing personal accountability, generating cooperation and collaboration, and staying calm and collected in high-pressure situations.

Learning Objectives

Day 1

  • Define leading without a supervisory title.
  • Identify key qualities of leadership and common pitfalls.
  • Discover techniques for becoming more self-aware.
  • Determine your leadership style and examine your style strengths and areas that need development.
  • Recognize the importance of modeling appropriate behavior and leading by example.
  • Create a personal brand vision statement.

 Day 2

  • Identify the six competencies of organizational awareness.
  • Create an integrated development plan that matches your organization's needs with your current role and individual strengths.
  • Practice personal accountability by asking self-directed questions.
  • Acquire positive internal and external communication habits.
  • Recognize the importance of proactive problem-solving.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance cooperation and collaboration among colleagues by modifying your leadership style.

Please complete the HR-1 Training Authorization Form to request classroom training. Your direct supervisor, departmental training coordinator and fiscal officer must approve the form. HR-1's received without proper approval will be returned to the Department's Training Coordinator.

You are not scheduled for the requested classroom training until you receive an official email confirmation from CLIP.
