Attendees Will Learn Financial Modeling for the Acquisition and Development of Commercial and Mixed-Use Real Estate Development Projects

TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Acting Commissioner Richard E. Constable, III today announced that registration is still open for the upcoming Microsoft Excel-based Project Finance class being held on June 13-14 at the offices of the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority in Trenton. This class is part of the Redevelopment Training Institute hosted by the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority (NJRA), an affiliated agency of the DCA.

“The NJRA Redevelopment Training Institute (NJRA RTI) continues to provide quality educational resources resulting in an enhanced knowledge of New Jersey's redevelopment process and project financing,” said Acting Commissioner Constable, who serves as Chair of the NJRA. “We have received nothing but positive feedback from the redevelopment stakeholders who have benefited from this class.”

The Project Finance class teaches students how to build financial models for the acquisition and development of commercial and mixed-use real estate development projects using Microsoft Excel. Participants will explore the development and analysis of project financials, including the calculation of loan payments, debt capacity, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and other financial calculations. Additionally, students will learn how to create a basic sensitivity analysis using Excel. Participants are expected to bring their own laptops and have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Students can receive 13.2 Continuing Legal Education Credits for this course.

The NJRA RTI offers intensive training courses that focus on the redevelopment of New Jersey's communities. The NJRA RTI is designed to provide non-profit and for-profit developers, professional consultants, entrepreneurs, city/county staff, and lawyers with a body of knowledge of the redevelopment and real estate development process and project financing.

“It is our goal to provide training that outlines the nuances of the redevelopment planning process in New Jersey, focuses on the real estate development process, and unlocks the key to understanding project finance,” said NJRA Executive Director Leslie A. Anderson. “The classroom instruction and real-world experience that our students receive is invaluable.”

The New Jersey Redevelopment Authority, a DCA affiliate, is an independent authority committed to revitalizing urban New Jersey. NJRA invests financial and technical resources into redevelopment projects to ensure that projects are urban-focused, neighborhood-based and investment-driven.
